Proactive Peace is all about understanding how it is that wars don’t happen. I believe that if we want to end war, we have to learn how to stop it from starting at all. Luckily, most of the time, communities do this.
I’ve been developing this concept through my PhD. research at the National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, at the University of Otago. I’m still going with the PhD. so you’ll be able to see how these ideas change and deepen over time.
My hope is that this blog will be able to introduce you to the ideas behind Proactive Peace Work, and inspire you to both see and support this important work that is happening all around us.
If you’re new to this idea, then there are some great, short, introductory posts under the ‘start here’ tab, which should give you a good idea of what exactly Proactive Peace Work is referring to.
Otherwise, you’ll find all the latest posts under the ‘Peace Posts‘ tab.
I believe, that in starting to use the idea of Proactive Peace, the world will be able to see and support work that successfully strengthens peace, and stops war from starting at all.
If you’d like to get in touch, I’d love to hear about Proactive Peace in your community.
Thanks for coming,
Ashley
